Makram Hamdan Dance Company Spring 2007 Artists-in-Residence Sunday, May 20 2 pm Makram Hamdan introduces his new company, Makram Hamdan Dance Company, at an open rehearsal of a new work-in-progress at the Watermilll Center during MHDC's 2007 spring residency. The choreographic work being explored by Makram Hamdan is based on the traditional Arabic music compositions Maq'am and Taqsim. It dissects and reassembles movement as a musical composition, utilizing the virtuosity of the human body as the instrument. Makram explores a kinetic and vibrant amalgam of dance techniques, in tandem with a new music composition by Reuben Butchart. Makram is honored to have dancers Jean Freebury, Oriada Islami, Katharine Livingston, Katherine Nauman and Nadine Wright performing.
The first staged workshop of this piece was initially developed during a residency at the Caldera Arts Center in Sisters, Oregon.
