Due to the inclement weather, the exhibition will not open as scheduled. The January 29 Exhibition Opening has been cancelled. The Exhibition will be on view over the weekend and we will hold a Closing Reception open to the public from 5-7pm on Tuesday, February 3.

The Watermill Center is pleased to announce a new installation project titled THE LIFE OF A PUPPET created by The Watermill Center’s Young Artist Residency Project (YARP), an after-school arts program, in partnership with The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreation Center that engages students ages 7 to 12 in visual and performance arts.

The multi-media show of portraiture and colorful characters features interactive and participatory elements and will be presented as part of a public closing reception at Sara Nightingale Gallery in Water Mill, NY on February 3 from 5pm-7pm.

The students have spent the Fall working with Watermill’s Resident Artists, experimenting with performance on the grounds and looking at the Watermill Collection. They have taken inspiration from sculptural portraits and textiles in the collection to create large-scale puppets that will be used in their Spring 2015 collaborative performance.

Jose Carlos Casado, a Watermill Resident Artist in 2014, will show a projected video piece alongside a series of paintings that have the added feature of being accessed via an app on the viewer’s smartphone or tablet. Local artist Christa Maiwald will exhibit a selection of humorous and elaborately embroidered portraits, photography and an “edible sculpture” for the opening night reception.
