Southampton Dual Language Program's 5th grade class & The Watermill Center Collaborative Presentation: Give It A Voice

On Saturday, May 22 5th grade students from Southampton Dual Language Program will be presenting in Spanish and English their creative writing inspired by the Watermill Collection of art and artifacts (ranging from 4,000BC to contemporary day). Families will be able to hear their pieces as well as experiencing an unconventional tour of the Center.
In the late fall, the Watermill Center Community Board member, Maria Pessino brought together Latino artists and professionals from the community to create a Latino Outreach Committee. With the help of one of their members, Joaquin Mendez (Southampton School Counselor and Director of the ESL Program), a friendship was developed between the Southampton Intermediate School and Watermill. The Watermill Center has actively been working together with Kerry Palumbo and Ellen Martin (teachers in the Dual Language program at the Intermediate school) and their 5th grade students to realize a multicultural project, using object based learning and their bilingual skills. The students also had the opportunity to participate in workshops with artists-in-residence.
