Yoga Classes 2017-08-03T15:44:31+00:00

Enjoy a free, 90-minute yoga class led by Nixon Beltran on the scenic grounds of The Watermill Center. Based on the principles of Ashtanga yoga as developed by Sri Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India, these classes focus on breath synchronized with movement and a mind-centering practice that improves one’s understanding of the architecture of the body, leaving you feeling energized and refreshed.

Classes will be held on select Sunday mornings, weather permitting. Please bring your own mat and small towel, and dress in loose comfortable clothing. Space is limited. Reservations are required. All skill levels are welcome!

A yoga practitioner for over 30 years, Nixon Beltran began study of Hatha Yoga asana in his native Colombia as taught by Sri Sri Anandamurtiji. In the mid 90’s, after practicing Jivamukti Yoga with Sharon Gannon and David Life, Beltran travelled to Mysore, south of India to begin studying Ashtanga yoga with Sri Pattabhi Jois and his daughter Saraswati. In mid 2000’s, he continued his study in Mysore with Sheshadri, traveling there for the following 11 years.

In addition to yoga, Beltran is a trained dancer, having studied at Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York City, and worked with various choreographers and artists in the U.S., South America, Europe and Asia. He joined The Watermill Center as a participant in International Summer Program in 2002, returning in this capacity each summer for the next 4 years. Since 2006, he has been The Watermill Center Manager.
