Viewpoints is The Watermill Center’s year-round conversation series, granting artists and art enthusiasts the opportunity to gather and discuss creative themes vital to the contemporary moment. Hosted at both its East End campus and in NYC, Viewpoints engages with the community through intriguing dialogue, artist talks, and lectures that span across disciplines.

Shane Weeks is member of the Shinnecock Nation. He is member of the Southampton Town Arts and Culture Committee, Shinnecock Nation/Southampton Town Cultural Stewardship Committee, The Watermill Center Community Fellows, Shinnecock Nation Natural Resource Committee, a board member of Slow Foods East End and several committees within the Shinnecock Nation including the Graves Protection Warriors Society.

Weeks is an artist, traditional dancer, traditional drummer, hunter and fisherman, cultural consultant and educator. He works for Wampum Magic on the Poospatuck reservation in Mastic throughout the year making wampum beads out of quahog clam shells. Weeks gives presentations and host events focused on Shinnecock life, history, and culture throughout the U.S. and elsewhere. He ran a Pow Wow stand for several years selling traditional art and crafts made by local artists and artists abroad. Weeks traveled all over the east coast and eastern Canada with the stand. One of his biggest goals is to bridge the awareness gap between the Shinnecock and global/local communities.
