Entang Wiharso (b. 1967, Tegal, Java) graduated from Institute Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta and began his career as a painter before expanding into sculpture, installation and video. His work offers an incisive examination of predominant socio-political conditions imposed on a landscape of personal experiences, revealing a complex picture of the human condition through the lens of love, hate, fanaticism, religion and ideology.  A recipient of numerous award and residencies including a Pollock-Krasner grant and a Copeland Fellowship at Amherst College, Entang has exhibited throughout the world and represented Indonesia in major international biennales.  Recent exhibitions include All You Need is Love, Mori Art Museum (Tokyo); The Encyclopedic Palace, 55th Venice Biennale, Indonesian Pavilion, Arsenale (Venice); Prague Biennale 6, (Prague); Untold Stories, ARNDT (Berlin); Love Me or Die, Indonesian National Gallery and Primo Marella Gallery (Jakarta/Milan); and Panorama, Singapore Art Museum (Singapore). Upcoming shows include a solo exhibition a Marc Straus Gallery, NY and Prospect 3: Notes for Now, New Orleans, LA. He lives and works in North Scituate, Rhode Island, USA and Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

While in residence at The Watermill Center, multi-media artist Entang Wiharso will create sheet metal cut-out puppetry with roots in the Indonesian Wayang Kulit tradition.
