Inaugurated in 2017, the Hayground Residency welcomes students from the Hayground School for a month-long residency at The Watermill Center. Students ages 12-14 spend time developing original works of theatre, gathering material, choreographing scenes and rehearsing performances. The final work is staged for public performances onsite at The Watermill Center and at Hayground School.

What makes a community? How does our culture and identity contribute to a community? How can we create new communities that bridge identities and cultures? This fall, students from the Hayground School’s Apprenticeship Group have considered these questions and others while reading the novel Seedfolks by Paul Fleishman. Using various forms of puppetry, the students have collaborated to adapt the novel for the stage.
