Yoga

Enjoy a free, 90-minute yoga class on the scenic grounds of The Watermill Center. Based on the principles of Ashtanga yoga as developed by Sri Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India, these classes focus on breath synchronized with movement and a mind-centering practice that improves one’s understanding of the architecture of the body, leaving you feeling energized and refreshed.

A yoga practitioner for over 30 years, Nixon Beltran began study of Hatha Yoga asana in his native Colombia as taught by Sri Sri Anandamurtiji. In the mid 90’s, after practicing Jivamukti Yoga with Sharon Gannon and David Life, Beltran travelled to Mysore, south of India to begin studying Ashtanga yoga with Sri Pattabhi Jois and his daughter Saraswati. In mid 2000’s, he continued his study in Mysore with Sheshadri, traveling there for the following 11 years. Since 2006, he has been The Watermill Center Manager.

Sara Walshe is both a yoga teacher and a practicing attorney. A lover of logic and philosophy, she brings these concepts into her yoga classes and invites her students to conduct self-exploration while on the mat.  As an ashtanga practitioner, Sara teaches a heavily-ashtanga influenced vinyasa class, with a focus on quieting the mind through breathing and movement.  Sara believes that with dedication, the yoga practice can serve as our greatest mirror, revealing and clarifying one’s true self. Sara has over 550 hours of training in asana and philosophy.  She and her husband split their time between the East Village and Springs and are active members of the Watermill Center Byrds.

Classes will be held on select Sunday mornings, weather permitting. Please bring your own mat and small towel, and dress in loose comfortable clothing. Space is limited. Reservations are required. All skill levels are welcome!
