In Candidate X: From Word to Image, theatre director Rachel Dickstein of Ripe Time will lead the public in a hands-on approach to creating movement-based theatre, inspired by her residency at The Watermill Center.

Drawing from stories of womxn, power and personal agency, Candidate X guides participants through a sample interview process followed by a hands-on exploration of the ways to create movement, image and action inspired by the collected stories. The workshop is for adults and teenagers, ages 12 and up.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ripe Time is an Obie-winning theatre company founded in 2000 and led by director and deviser, Rachel Dickstein. Since 2000, Ripe Time has created eight large-scale ensemble works that have received three Obie Awards and nominations from the Drama Desk Awards, The Drama League, and the Joe A. Callaway Award for Outstanding Direction. Their work has been commissioned by Brooklyn Academy of Music, CTG, Annenberg Center for the Arts and presented at BAM Next Wave Festival, Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Yale Repertory Theatre’s “No Boundaries,” BAM-Fisher, Baruch Performing Arts Center, The JCC in Manhattan, 3LD Art & Technology Center, Ohio Theatre, PS 122, Clark Studio at Lincoln Center, and LaMaMa, ETC, Ko Festival, and Voice and Vision.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

As this event takes place outdoors, we strongly encourage proper footwear and attire. Pets are not allowed. It is encouraged for guests to bring their own water bottles.

Masks are mandatory and we ask that all guests adhere to strict social distancing guidelines. Space is limited. We advise guests to expect to spend roughly 40 minutes on-site after check-in to help us limit the number of guests on-site. All guests will be required to adhere to local safety regulations.
