Les Vraoums

New Folk, New Freedom, and New Woman follows three main lines that help to reshape cultural paradigms through a focus on history from its larger themes to its smaller nuances. New Folk reinvents folklore through the use of fragments of information, stories, songs, landscapes, and practices. New Freedom uses the energy of the sweating body through performance to commit to the pleasure and presence of the instant. New Woman explores the meeting of these two forces, the present performer and the cultural narrative, to interrogate the absurd prejudices and expectations of the French Woman. Ultimately, what emerges is both a fabulous cabaret and a new way of looking at old practices.

Les Vraoums is an all-female cabaret show that includes cheap music, live singing, transvestites, dance, discussion, burlesque and more. Since 2006, Les Vraoums have been performing in a variety of venues from art galleries and dance studios to bars and even private homes. Comprised of Maeva Cunci, Pauline Curnier-Jardin, Aude Lachaise, and Virginie Thomas, Les Vraoums performs a variety of musical styles with children’s keyboards and low-fi instruments focused as much on the final performance as on the journey of creation. More information is available on their website.
