The Watermill Center invites families to join Alum, Lexy Ho-Tai in a fun, experimental and scrappy puppet making workshop!
Ho-Tai will guide participants in introductory puppet mechanics, such as constructing a functional puppet mouth using everyday materials. Participants are encouraged to dive deep into their imaginations and curiosities to transform found and recycled materials into new and inventive creatures!

Due to COVID-19, this event will take place online. All registered attendees will receive an email with a Zoom link the morning of the event.
MATERIALS NEEDED
- Cardboard (Having both a corrugated cardboard box and thinner cardboard, such as from a cereal/ cracker box, is recommended)
- Fabric Scraps (such as an old rag or lonely socks)
- Scissors
- An Adhesive (a hot glue gun is recommended, but tape, a stapler or other adhesives work as well)
- Found Objects (anything you want to include for your puppet)
Found Objects can include:
- wrapping paper, tissue paper, magazines
- buttons, broken jewelry
- yarn, string
- plastic bottles, egg cartons, packaging
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lexy Ho-Tai is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Queens, NY. Her public and participatory practice employs humor, play, and absurdity to invite viewers to contemplate pressing social and environmental issues. She believes that joy is a radical act of resistance, and that play forges a powerful space to create alternative futures. Her teaching practice explores world-building, accessibility, craft, and play. She disrupts the elitist tendencies of the art world by working in non-traditional art spaces, repurposing discarded materials, collaborating across disciplines, and engaging with diverse audiences. She has a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School for Design, and residencies have included Flux Factory, ARoS Museum, Everglades National Park, Museum of Arts and Design and The Watermill Center.
