Join us at The Watermill Center for a screening of Shakespeare’s Sonnets, an opera directed by our own Artistic Director, Robert Wilson, with music by Rufus Wainwright.
Shakespeare’s Sonnets premiered April 2009 at the Berliner Ensemble in Berlin, Germany. 24 of Shakespeare’s famous 154 sonnets, published in 1609, were selected by Robert Wilson for his staging set to music by singer Rufus Wainwright. In this opera Robert Wilson has created a highly stylized design for each sonnet including lavish costumes, over-sized hair and make-up, and his trademark lighting.
Come to The Watermill Center to get little closer to the process behind Robert Wilson’s theatrical magic. Materials and sketches used during the making of Shakespeare’s Sonnets will be displayed.
Please note Shakespeare’s Sonnets is in German without subtittles, however a synopsis and translation of the sonnets will be made available.
